I wasn’t sure what to name this recipe – I mean it’s pretty basic, just chocolate icing that happens to be considered Paleo, GAPS and allergy friendly. But it’s actually more then just chocolate icing, it’s icing made with wholesome ingredients. Ingredients that are real, unprocessed and even good for your body. I love that this can be considered a treat, good for you and taste great at the same time. It’s allergy-friendly and made with anti-inflammatory ingredients. So whether you are on the Paleo diet, GAPS diet, have food allergies/intolerances or just looking to eat clean, feel free to indulge here with this recipe!
Did you know –
- Raw Honey -has anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties in it, it can strengthen your immune system, contains antioxidants, can help decrease allergy symptoms and delivers an energy boost without taxing your blood sugar.
- Raw Cacao Powder (cocoa is the processed form of the cacao bean) -is extremely high in antioxidants, iron, magnesium and calcium. And a natural mood booster!
Paleo Chocolate Icing
Author: The Allergy Free Family
Ingredients:
1/2 cup honey
1 cup packed organic non-hydrogenated palm shortening (we use this)
1 cup raw cacao powder (we use this)
1 tbs pure vanilla extract
Pinch of Celtic or Himalayan sea salt (we use this)
Instructions:
Using a mixer, blend all ingredients until smooth and creamy. If you would like this icing sweeter then with just the 1/2 cup of honey, I would recommend adding a natural granular sugar like maple sugar or coconut sugar. If you add more honey it will start to thin out the icing which will make it harder for any piping to sit in place.
Thank you. Do you have a link to the cake batter? Would love to make the whole thing 🙂

Hi Nicole, the cake batter is actually from a Costco magazine. If you go to my Instagram page I posted a copy of it there under one of the cupcake pictures :).
